I was born in Minnesota and raised in Louisiana. My mom is a retired teacher and I always wanted to follow in her footsteps. Now that I am, I love the time I spend in the classrooms helping the kiddos' minds grow!

I am originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador but was living in Italy before my parents moved my brothers and I to Baton Rouge. We left Ecuador for Italy because the economic/political situation in Ecuador was deteriorating during the late 90s. We moved to Italy because my father's family is originally from the Genoa area. From there my parents were able to obtain a greencard to move to the U.S. My brothers and I were educated in an English immersion school. We were raised bilingual (Spanish-English) from early childhood. Italian is the third language I learned and that I am fluent/literate in. I became a teacher because I have traveled and lived throughout America and Europe. I have seen and felt racism and exclusion for being a foreigner and culturally misunderstood. Also, I have experienced the benefits of being fluent in foreign languages. So, I set my personal goal to advocate for social justice and equality regardless of a person's background. In order to accomplish my goal I knew I had to start by educating our future leaders to be accepting and embracing of what's different around the world. I like to share my life experiences as a testimony that being different is great and we should all be open to learn from other cultures.

FLAIM Love: I love my job at FLAIM because I get to do what I always envisioned myself doing. Teaching others about my native country and in my native language. I love the support I receive from administration, colleagues, and the parents. The students are so bright and sweet, I truly enjoy them. Finally, I love that I never dread coming into work and it's always rewarding to watch my students grow and become more fluent in a foreign language.
