Fall Adult Social

This year, FLAIM has more new parents than ever before. The seasoned FLAIMers would like to welcome our new parents and our new teachers at our Fall Adult Social Saturday, August 24 at 7PM. This event is BYOB and pot luck. Think charcuterie, crudités, sandwich trays, pulled pork + buns, cookies, mini desserts, pasta salad, etc.

At this time, we need help with setup and breakdown and ice.

If you can help with this event, please email pto@brflaim.org.

Pre-K & Kindergarten Orientation

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Baton Rouge FLAIM family. Your child is standing on the threshold of one of the greatest adventures of life. Pre-K and Kindergarten are important milestones in the life of a child. It is an exciting time for children; a whole new world opens up for them each day, bringing new experiences and developing skills as each child learns to live, work, and interact with others. This first year will have a lifetime effect on your child as kindergarten sets the foundation for school success and beyond.

When your child starts pre-k or kindergarten, you are entrusting the school with a great responsibility. We take that responsibility seriously and will use a highly individualized approach to meet the particular needs of your child while making learning a positive experience. However, this is a cooperative effort, requiring the support and encouragement of both the parents and the school.

We would like to invite you to a Pre-K and Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Thursday, August 8th. Pre-K parents will meet in the gym at 8:00 AM . Kindergarten parents will meet in the gym at 9:00 AM. After a very brief meeting in the gym, you will meet with your child’s teacher in their classroom. Students will not begin attending until Friday, August 9th.

On that day, we will review with you all that you will need to know for this year to be successful for your child. We will have an opportunity to answer any questions you may have for us. Students will not remain with us that day. A staggered schedule has been developed and was included with this letter sent home. The day your child will attend is also included in that letter, so please read the information carefully so that you know when your child will come to school. Staggered attendance is to enable the students to become acclimated to their new school in small groups. Please call the school if you did not receive the letter with your child’s staggered date. Staggered start dates are Friday, Aug. 9, Monday, Aug. 12, and Tues. Aug. 13. All students come to school on WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14!

We are happy to have you with us and look forward to meeting you personally. We are confident that it will be a rewarding and successful year for your child.

Letter from the Principal, July 15, 2019

Dear Parents,

Hello from FLAIM! I hope that all of you are having a wonderful summer. It is going by so quickly! By the time you get this letter there will only be a few weeks before the beginning of school. I thought that you might like to know some of what will happen this coming school year.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new students, teachers, and parents this year.

Supply Lists

PTO school supplies will be ready when students report to school. For those of you who did not choose to participate in the PTO School Supply project through LA Office supply, supply lists are ready! You may pick them up at the school anytime Monday through Thursday from 8:00- 4:00. If you would like for us to fax or email you a copy, we can do that as well, just call Ms. Valaire at 343-6630. To download a school supply list, visit our School Supply page.

School Supply Fee

There is a school supply fee of $25.00. This money is used for consumables for the students throughout the year. If this is a hardship for any families, please do not hesitate to let us know. We can always work this out. This fee also covers the cost of the school planner for students in 2nd-5th grade. All students will receive a planner.

We have many of our teachers returning. Several of them have returned to their home countries or have moved out of state. We have so many wonderful teachers and staff on our FLAIM team. You will enjoy meeting all of them. This year, we are adding a second French class at second grade, Madame Justine Ngah, will be teaching this class. We have also added another fifth grade Spanish class. Senore Veas will be teaching this class. We had three French teachers return to France this summer. In their places we have at first grade Monsieur Cary Hebert and Madame Fabienne Sizemore. At Kindergarten we have Madame Hartmann. Our immersion Mandarin classes have really grown. However our first class, which is now in fifth grade, is extremely small and so is our fourth grade class. Our district has determined that we must have a 4/5 Mandarin combination for this year. For this class we have Ms. Zhijuan Ding joining us.

For information about uniform requirements, visit our Uniform page.

Fridays are Spirit Day. Students may wear their BR FLAIM T-shirt to school on each Friday.
