Letter from Principal, January/February, 2019

Dear Parents,

Time certainly is going by quickly!  The second semester is long and intense.  We have so much to do over here.  Our teachers are working hard to have your child ready for the next level and become bilingual.  I am very proud of our students and how hard they are working.

The flu has definitely hit both campuses...adults and children.  Please, please if you child is ill, keep them home.  At our morning assembly we have spoken to the students about the importance of washing their hands with water and soap, how to sneeze properly, and not sharing personal items.  If you will help us by speaking to your children about how to stay healthy, I would appreciate it greatly.

Just a gentle reminder, we need all students on time for school and not checking out early.   At the beginning of the day, our immersion teachers do oral language skills and review.  It is so important for the students to be here for that part of the day.  We do teach until the end of the day...usually during this time, until 3:00, teachers are having formal language instruction, grammar and speaking in the target language.  So, please help us have everyone here all day.

Communication is probably the most important part of the education process for parent and teacher.  If the parent and teacher work together, the child senses that the expectations for him/her are the same from parent and teacher.  We all have times when events happen beyond our control.  If you feel that your child needs extra support for any reason, please talk your child’s teacher.  If you feel that the school could do something better or should begin doing something that is not already done, please speak to the administration.  We cannot help, or support, or understand if we do not know what your ideas and suggestions are concerning any part of the school.  The most important thing any of us can do is communicate and work to the good of the student.  You also have a very vocal PTO organization.  Become involved with it, if you are able.  Working as a team makes us better and stronger.

Our third, fourth and fifth grade students will begin LEAP Camp on February 11th.  Parents will receive detailed information about the camp later this month.  We will have camp from 3:30-4:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays until March 27th.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you during the upcoming events.  We are here to educate your child.   We are honored that you chose this program for your child’s education.  Immersion is a totally different program.  We work very hard to provide a unique and highly successful school.
