2nd Round of Applications for Mandarin & French

EBR Magnet is accepting another round of Applications for French & Mandarin. Please let your friends and family know.

Recently, Baton Rouge FLAIM was nominated as a Blue Ribbon School, which is a huge honor. We have also received several awards in the past few years. The most notable award is the award of Louisiana State Immersion School Certification. There were only five schools recognized as a state certified immersion schools, and we were the only non-charter public elementary school to receive this recognition. We went through a rigorous audit by the state. A very detailed rubric was used to guide us as we worked to meet the requirements. Our entire school community is very proud of this award. In order to maintain this standing, we will have to once again go through this process in three years.

FLAIM’s French program was awarded, LabelFrancÉducation, which is a seal of quality awarded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to schools providing outstanding bilingual education in French as part of their curriculum. For the past two years, we have administered the DELF exam. This is an exam that the French government gives to determine if students meet their definition of fluency. Our students have been the only elementary school whose entire class of 5th grade students passed the DELF, obtaining their official fluency certification from the French government. We are hoping to administer the Spanish version of this exam this year, and we know we will have the same results.

Academically, we have shown steady growth for the past three years. We have not received an official state score yet. However, we know by looking at our results that our students performed very well. Because of our scores, we have been recognized by the district for our performance. We have maintained our status as a School of Exemplary Academic Growth with an "A" rating. The state has recognized us as a School of Distinction for consistent closure of achievement gaps in our subgroup scores.

We have received several other recognitions and awards in the past three years. The Magnet Schools of America has awarded BR FLAIM the MSA School of Excellence award twice in the past three years. Project Fit America awarded us with a physical fitness playground equipment for participation in the Project Fit America Project. Our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program) was awarded a score of 100% on implementation and used as a model for the program.

Baton Rouge FLAIM faculty has received many commendations for their exemplary work. Our first grade French teacher won the ACTFL Louisiana State Foreign Language Teacher of the Year Award for 2013-2014. FLAIM's PE teacher won the Dance Educator of the Year Award for 2013-2014. She is also a nationally certified physical education educator. Our teachers have been asked on numerous occasions to present by the Louisiana Department of Education World Languages Department to the many new world language teachers they train annually. Several of our teachers were actively involved in writing the new standards for our state immersion curriculum in Spanish and French.
