Consider FLAIM

There are many reason why you should consider FLAIM for your child. If you haven't read about the benefits of language immersion, see here. For information on the East Baton Rouge Parish (EBR) Magnet Program see here

FLAIM can only accept students new to immersion at the Kindergarten and 1st grade levels. Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts/Literacy are completely in the immersion language (French, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese). Students who are not fluent in the immersion language will not be able to understand/keep up at the higher grade levels. English Language Arts are taught each day for 90- 120 minutes so that students build their English reading and writing skills as well.

If a child is already fully fluent in the Immersion Language, meaning that they can read, write, and speak the Immersion Language, and they do not require ELL/ESL services, then they are eligible to apply to FLAIM at any grade. Likewise, if a child is presently attending an Immersion school and would like to apply for the next grade at FLAIM, then they are also eligible to apply.

Enrollment Process

Enrolling your child at FLAIM is 2-step process.

Step 1: Apply to the EBR Magnet Program

FLAIM is an academic magnet school - which means it is a tuition free, public school. As a magnet school, all students must apply for a spot in the program. To apply for a spot, submit an Online Application. Be sure to completely follow the directions on the application to ensure that your child's application is processed. A spot for your child in the first choice school is not guaranteed. If your child is currently enrolled in an EBR school, please contact the school front office to obtain their Student ID Number.

Step 2: Screening

In order to ensure that students are ready and able to handle the pacing and working in the foreign language, FLAIM will screen all students with a spot before they can be fully enrolled. The screening takes place in the spring semester at FLAIM. There is a cut off score that students must meet or exceed in order to be enrolled. If a child does not meet or exceed this score, they will not be retested.
